Shaggy’s has long been known for fun and dining with locations on the Biloxi Beach and Pass Christian marina and most recently, a new location overlooking the water in Gulfport. Over the last several years, they’ve refined their menu, expanded to multiple locations and given diners a full-out Mississippi Gulf Coast experience! Their latest addition is a much needed one here on the coast: breakfast on the beach!

The Atmosphere

I recently visited Shaggy’s in Biloxi for a run through of their new breakfast menu. The staff were up and buzzing at 9:00 a.m. when I arrived. I received smiles and greetings from everyone on site. The tables were set on the west deck and several families were huddled around them, sharing their delicious looking breakfast plates. I took my time, enjoying the scenery over a cup of coffee as I watched the waves roll in. It was perfect for a leisurely Saturday morning.

The Food

My choices for breakfast offered plenty of variety. I decided to try a couple different plates – for your benefit, of course! I always gravitate towards waffles and pancakes, my weakness, so that was my first choice: the Belgian Waffles with praline butter and bacon! I also ordered the Shaggy’s Scramble, which is eggs on top of Texas toast with a crawfish cream sauce and breakfast potatoes, a totally different and savory dish.

The waffles were perfect with a little crisp on the edges. The praline butter sauce was oh, so amazing – rich, buttery sweetness with pecans. Mmmmmm….  No syrup needed, in my opinion. Add some thick bacon strips, and it was quite a treat for breakfast. Perfect with a mimosa!

Although I was tempted to eat all the waffles and be perfectly content, I pushed them to the side to give the scramble a try. They brought the plate out piping hot; in fact, the Texas toast was still crisp under the seafood sauce. The combination of it all – crisp, buttery toast, scrambled eggs, Cajun cream sauce, and crawfish – was great. I sipped a Bloody Mary with this one to get the full effect. We Southerners love our Bloody Marys and seafood, right?

Our Stamp of Approval

Shaggy’s breakfast earns our stamp of approval, and we will definitely return. Yes, they have some great cocktails and seafood, but everyone must visit for a Mississippi Coast morning soon! They will continue with breakfast hours 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at their Biloxi location ONLY during summer months.
